some time ago the New England Journal of Medicine published a major article showing that 13 percent of runners in the 2002 Boston Marathon might have suffered from hyponatremia, a dangerous condition caused by drinking too much fluid. The figure was surprising because Boston draws the best, fittest, and most experienced runners in the world. If Boston has a 13-percent rate of hyponatremia, what is it at other marathons?

they recommend you drink 400 to 800 ml/hr (13.5 to 27 fluid ounces)

8oz of water every 10min… 8oz is 0.23ltrs so over the course of 3:30 for your time, thats 4.83 liters… WAAAAAAAY over the top I think. A cup of water every 10min… your going to die of CRAMPS, as to will bananas, eating one after… sure. Again expert village giving WRONG advice about marathon running.

i wasn’t directing it to you I was saying it to marijuanasmoker10 and irishhalonerd
when i said too I meant them

  12. joe03056 says:

Please, I’m curious… what exactly did I say that was wrong?

  13. limewater012 says:

    actually you’re wrong too marijuanasmoker
    it’s 26.2 miles

  14. joe03056 says:

Why can’t you just point out the mistake politely – there are perfectly intelligent people out there who don’t know how long a marathon is. Personally, I’ve run 10 of them… and I’d have preferred most to have been 24 miles :-)

  15. ChesterDoraemon says:

shit just get me a bottle of gasoline and I’m good to go.

  16. marijuanasmoker10 says:

irishhalonerd…..a marathon is 26 miles dumbass not 24..

  17. phonytv says:

yeah i used them before. i used them once a few weeks before the marathon and they seem to have made me tired. I didn’t think it was the gel packs at that time. but then i took some during the marathon and it really messed up my performance. I would say check out how they work for you multiple times before deciding if you should use them during a marathon. good luck!

  18. IrishHaloNerd says:

I run cross country and track too, but a marathon is another thing entirely. While during practice for cross country the maximum, extremely maximum distance is eight miles, a marathon is a massive 24 miles, a feat which takes a lot more stamina.

  21. radio213 says:

im a cross country runner and im training for my first marathon that is in two weeks, has anyone used those gel packets, cuz im scared to eat cuz it usually makes my stomach upset while running or gives me cramps.
